Driekie, 50 – ‘The 50 Over 50 Women’s Portrait Campaign’

Driekie, 50

Where are you from, and where do you currently live?

From South Africa, and currently living in Sabie, Mpumalanga.

If your friends were to describe you, what would they say?

Generous, creative and disciplined.

What is your favourite quote or saying?

Treat everything with excellence and see how your life changes

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change

You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

What would you say you are most proud of?

I am most proud of leaving a full-time job after 10 years and starting my own business.

This decision led to a very successful business, now 20 years later.

I am also very proud of my sporting success in cycling over the years. For example, taking part in the World Championship in Cross Country.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Create & Live your dream, be confident

It’s not the destination but the journey that matters.

What is a goal or dream you still wish to accomplish?

My goal is to remain present as much as possible. I would like to practice Gratitude every day.

I aim to regularly remind myself of what I’m grateful for.

I create and live my dream daily. More dreams are to travel more locally and internationally.

I also want to put together a recipe book as I am very passionate about cooking and baking.

My ultimate goal is to get back into fitness and to be physically strong.

What are your thoughts on ageing?

The first step in aging well for me is being young at heart.

I want to age gracefully, by taking care of my health, skin & weight.

Regular excercising. By keeping my brains active.

Find humor, be a productive member of society, and be grateful.

I believe that a positive attitude about aging could boost health

What did you enjoy most about The 50 Over 50 Women’s Portrait Campaign? And how did the experience leave you feeling?

What I enjoyed most was to share this experience with my school friend.

We have known each other for many years and although we are over 50, I realized that the heart never aged and has no wrinkles.

I enjoyed the whole studio experience and the new friendships that we built. I felt so blessed with everyone being part of this experience.

Makeup artist Donna and I had such a great time with Driekie and Malinda.  Stories were shared, memories made.

Driekie…green is your colour! Donna and I still can’t get over how your eyes lit up in green!

Thank you for being part of The 50 Over 50 Women’s Portrait Campaign!
