Hanny, The 40 Over 40 Women’s Portrait Campaign
Hannie, 69
I have been described by my friends and family as…
Happy, bubbly, thoughtful, sincere and confident.
My best qualities are…
Being thoughtful and helpful to people.
I am most proud of…
I’m most proud of myself for the jobs that I’ve done, and for raising two beautiful daughters.
My favourite quotes…
“Be who you are and say how you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.
You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose.” Dr Seuss
What advice would I give my 20-year-old self…
Go out into the world and grab any opportunity you can get!
We all experience many lifetimes in this one life. What did you find were the most poignant changes as you entered your 40s?
When I left a very unhappy marriage I was in, and started studying as a tour guide. That really was magnificent for me at my age, as I had never really studied in my life before that.
A story I’d like to share…
I overcame my belief about studying, as I never believed I would be able to study and learn at such a late stage in my life.
So I’m really proud of myself for having achieved that.
Thoughts on aging…
I feel that I am aging very well. I’m living in a lovely home that takes care of me, and I feel that I am looking after myself really well.
The 40 Over 40 portrait sessions that have occurred when mother and daughter(s) have come together to be photographed have been pretty special.
Often the photos we have with our moms, are those taken on phones, and most of the time, they aren’t printed.
I’m so happy I got to document this day with Hanny and her daughters (and granddaughters, which I’ll be posting in a separate blog as there are so many beautiful ones.)
It was such a beautiful day, and Hanny’s daughter Nicky (I posted her 40 over 40 session several days ago) organised for all the girls to come to the session.
Nicky emigrated to England soon after the session, and I know she is going to treasure these forever.
