Natascha, The 40 Over 40 Women’s Portrait Campaign

Natascha, 50

I have been described by my friends and family as…

Compassionate, headstrong, and kind.

I am most proud of…

Starting a business during covid, called Kamina Jewellery. Kamina means ‘stones’ in Croation.  I previously used to work as a buyer for Spilhaus, so I used my experience to get this new business going.  I also own a business with my sister, called ‘Games for Brains‘, which we have been running for 6 years. The idea was sparked during a games evening, realising that there are so many games out there that people don’t know about; And realising how it would be such a great concept to get children to spend more time playing games with family or friends, and less time on their devices.   These games can be purchased via the link.

My favourite quotes…

“Evil can only exist if good men do nothing.”

What advice would I give my 20-year-old self…

Love yourself and don’t judge others.

We all experience many lifetimes in this one life. What did you find were the most poignant changes as you entered your 40’s?

I definitely became more relaxed and learned to let the little things go. My faith has definitely grown stronger.

A goal or dream I still have is…

to travel to as many places as possible to experience life to the fullest.

A story I’d like to share…

Emigrating to England at the age of 50! I must be nuts, but I’m looking forward to the new adventure!

I’ve known Natascha since we were in junior school, and our beautiful friendship has spanned over 40 years, in South Africa and England.  She is ardently loyal and trusting, and one of the kindest humans I know. She always has my back. Always! She is the kind of friend I can visit, and have a snooze on her sofa without feeling guilty. Well, I could say she is actually more like family now. Her husband John, and their son Max, headed to England to get set up house (emigrating is not for sissies, I’ve heard!), while Tash stayed behind with Faith for a few weeks to tie up some loose ends.  They enjoyed the 40 over 40 portrait shoot as mother and daughter bonding time, as Faith is in matric and will soon be heading into the big world.  I felt quite emotional having them in my studio, seeing Faith all grown up, and knowing that they will all soon be living abroad.  But life is about change, so I’m happy for the adventures that lie ahead for them in my favourite part of the world.

About the campaign: The 40 Over 40 Women’s Portrait Campaign is about celebrating women in their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and upwards. A time for women to experience a fun, empowering, and transformational day at my Sea Point studio. To be seen, and to share their life stories. It will conclude with a special finale of a limited edition printed magazine for each of the participants, AND an exhibition of the best portrait(s) of each woman, at a gallery in Cape Town, in July 2022.

“I BELIEVE THAT REAL BEAUTY IS CELEBRATING WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT.

AND THAT IT DOESN’T DIMINISH WITH AGE.

I KNOW WE ALL HAVE A STORY TO SHARE.

AND I WANT TO CELEBRATE YOU AND YOUR STORY.”  Monica Dart
