Stephany, 58 – ‘The 50 Over 50 Women’s Portrait Campaign’

Stephany, 58

Where are you from, and where do you currently live?

Cape Town, South Africa.

If your friends were to describe you, what would they say?

I asked five of my nearest and dearest and some of the adjectives they came up with were:

Adventurous, courageous, authentic, caring, generous, strong, resilient, gorgeous inside and out, funny, empathic,

a little crazy, passionate, inspirational and inspired, creative, Fun, and compassionate

What is your favourite quote or saying?

In life in general:

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference!”

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough”
“If you are going to do something do it with all you have!

At work:
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act but a habit.” Aristotle

“It is what it is!” 😊

What would you say you are most proud of?

I am most proud of our gorgeous son Kyle, who is 28 now, and the most wonderful kind human being.

His generosity, wisdom, compassion, and insight are too beautiful to observe.

My biggest accomplishment along with being married to and partnering life with my wonderful man Warwick for 30 years this year.

I am also extremely proud of having walked Three Camino’s solo (two over 900km each), earned three Comrades medals and several Two Oceans Ultra marathon medals,

and I am so proud of the amazing Company that I have been part of building for the last 22 years.

I am proud of who I have become despite where I started.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Weight is irrelevant, love yourself always.

You can love and care for everyone but look out for yourself along the way.

Live your life to the fullest, go on every adventure you can, when you can.

It is okay not to know what you want to be or do when you are 25.

Find your passion and when you do it is magical.

Travel, travel, travel, collect memories not stuff Laugh a lot, laugh at yourself
Try stuff ….

What is a goal or dream you still wish to accomplish?

I still have so much I want to accomplish;

Travel the world in a camper van or redone bus with my amazing husband

Walk the Shikoku 88 Temples Camino in Japan

Walk a Camino with my son and daughter-in-law

Run or be very involved in an NPO for empowering women when I “retire” in a few years

What are your thoughts on ageing?

To be honest I have never thought of myself as aging until recently when I started aching all over.

Age is really just a number; I take life by the “balls” and do everything I can whenever

I can and hope to do so for as long as my body will allow me to.

When your kids look at you and say “You are amazing, and we don’t see you as old, and you are brave and courageous”, I guess that helps too.

What did you enjoy most about The 50 Over 50 Women’s Portrait Campaign? And how did the experience leave you feeling?

I loved the experience; it was fun and made me feel sexy and full of energy.

I think it gave me even more confidence and made me smile a lot.

Seeing the photos for the first time made me emotional and I am in love with my photos.

How did you hear about my campaign?

Complete fluke, I was looking for a photographer for something else and stumbled onto Monica through a friend.

I was so excited to be invited to consider doing it.

Another MAGNIFICENT day in my studio!  Stephany and I had a blast and I loved her varied selection of outfits…vibrant green and pink…and then the more moody, blacks.
