Carina, The 40 Over 40 Women’s Portrait Campaign

Carina, 41

I have been described by my friends and family as…

Solicitous, headstrong, feisty, organised, beautiful (and sultry AF in front of the camera, says her sister Marinda!)

My best qualities are…

Taking care of others.

I am most proud of…

Having grown up with parents with strong values I’m happy to build my own home and family foundations.

My favourite quotes…

Happiness is a choice, not a result.

Nothing will make you happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy.

Your happiness will not come to you…it will only come from you.

What advice would I give my 20-year-old self…

Stop trying to live up to other people’s expectations.

Make your own choices and live with them.

We all experience many lifetimes in this one life. What did you find were the most poignant changes as you entered your 40s?

Clarity of life.  Yes, it’s like the more you try not to ‘grow up’ and believe you are still 21, the more you actually realise you have what it takes

to live a happy life by your own choices.

A story I’d like to share…

For me, a big realisation/ moment was when my Mother passed away. It’s like…in a way, I am no longer a child and it hit me

that someday this is what my own daughters will experience. Heartache.

So for me, I made a choice to fill them with love and good memories to my heart’s content…

for me…

and for them.

Thoughts on aging…

With two childer under the age of four, I don’t think of aging…it scares the sh!t out of me!

Breathe…live day by day.

My ultimate goal is to have HAPPY children!

I had a wonderful day in my studio with Carina and her sisters, Aletta and Marinda.  They are all part of the 40 Over 40 Women’s Portrait Campaign.

If this is your first time on my blog, let me give you a little info about this amazing campaign. In July 2021, I launched the campaign, and 40 incredible women applied to be part of it. I wanted to say goodbye to my 40s and welcome in my 50s, and create something to celebrate the strong, wise,

and courageous women between the ages of 40 to 100. By the beginning of June this year, I would have photographed 40 amazing and inspiring women.

For those that stood in front of my lens, it took bravery and vulnerability.

“I believe that real beauty is celebrating what makes us different. And that it doesn’t diminish with age.

I know we all have a story to share. And I wanted to celebrate YOU and your story.”
