Johanna & Fredrik’s ‘Fredagsmys’ Family Photo Shoot / Stockholm/Sweden

I met Johanna and her husband Fredrik at Mia & Jonas’s wedding, which I photographed this year in the south of Stockholm. They were at the wedding with their two high-spirited, confident sons, who performed some amazing moves on the dance floor and stage. It was great to see them again, several months later for an extended family shoot. Johanna emailed me to say how important family time is to them, in particularly Friday nights, where Swedes often celebrate what is called ‘Fredagsmys’ – ‘Friday cozy’. Ideally, it happens right after having tacos for dinner, and everyone, young and old chats, eats, drinks and catches up on the past week (usually on the sofa). This wonderful ‘holy’ Swedish tradition took place at Johanna and Fredrik’s beautiful home in the suburb of Segeltorp in Stockholm. I was waiting outside my hotel in Stockholm when this gorgeous classic red sports car pulled up. Fredrik got out and waved to me, and I think I let out a squeal of sheer happiness, that the ‘red beauty’ was going to be my ride through Stockholm, to the shoot! Johanna loves design, and Fredrik loves cooking, and the setup of their kitchen and living room area is brilliant as it is perfect for social gatherings. Frederik was preparing tacos, and family started arriving, and the house started to liven up. It was great to see so many familiar faces from the wedding, and I was so happy to see my bridal couple, Mia and Jonas too! Before everyone arrived, I took some photos outside just of Johanna, Fredrik and their boys. The light is absolutely lovely in Autumn, and the display of colour from the autumn leaves made a perfect background. They are a very sporty family, with Frederik being the head coach of The Stockholm Mean Machines, the oldest and most successful American football team in Sweden. Johanna loves football, and her and Fredrik met while being both being active in the sport. One of the best perks of my job is the amazing people I get to meet and photograph.
