Sharon, 66 – The 50 Over 50 Women’s Portrait Campaign

Sharon, 66

Where are you from, and where do you currently live?

Cape Town, South Africa

If your friends were to describe you, what would they say?

Compassionate, independent and adventurous

What is your favourite quote or saying?

“It’s never too late – never too late to start over, never too late to be happy.” Jane Fonda

What would you say you are most proud of?

Finding the courage to end my 30-year marriage with my Greek spouse and raising my two wonderful children.

My son’s success in the music
industry as a producer and DJ as Crazy White Boy, Strange Loving, and now Kostaki.

My daughter’s strength and support through the years and her becoming a wonderful mother to our first grandchild.

Such a special privilege being his gaga.

I embarked on a new path at the age of 42 by establishing my own thriving estate agency business.

During difficult times, I was responsible for my elderly parents’ care until they passed away.

Forging long-lasting friendships and relationships since my early school days over 60 years ago.

Realising and cultivating my own individuality has been a profound experience giving me unexpected resilience and self-assurance, culminating
in me meeting and marrying the love of my life.

I am now wholeheartedly embracing this new chapter in my life.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Be true to yourself and don’t conform to others’ expectations.

What is a goal or dream you still wish to accomplish?

I would love to write a book and express myself creatively by doing more artwork.

I also want to give back to the community by volunteering at animal shelters as I feel strongly about adopting rescue dogs, especially the hairless Chinese Crested breed.

Having lived in Greece and in Seychelles, more travel is another goal, as my hubby loves to travel,

and I look forward to new adventures with him.

What are your thoughts on ageing?

I want to age gracefully. Age is but a number and I have confidence now that I didn’t have when I was younger.

What did you enjoy most about The 50 Over 50 Women’s Portrait Campaign? And how did the experience leave you feeling?

It’s a day just about you! It’s truly an experience every woman should have once in her lifetime, as you see yourself in a completely different light.

I loved being pampered and felt it was an emotional day.

On seeing the finished photos, it was like seeing myself for the first time.
