Aude & Robin’s Charming Wedding in Le Marais / Paris / France
I’ve known Robin and Aude several years now, and have so much admiration for them both. In 2013 I photographed them in Arles, France, where Robin was exhibiting some of his work, “Your Wounds Will Be Named Silence” at Rencontres Arles. (Click here, and you can see their couple shoot and read about this dynamic couple). He is currently shooting for National Geographic and has dedicated his career to documenting human rights and development issues around the world.
Robin is from New Zealand, and Aude from France, so they celebrated their wedding with their close friends and family, first in NZ, and then in Paris. It’s always exciting shooting in a new country. I woke up feeling so nervous and at the same time quite overwhelmed by all the wonderful possibilities that lay ahead. I had a scout around the area before the wedding to find some places for their photos..and it was one of those days where everything really just fell into place.
Their ceremony took place under the trees at Jardin des Rosiers-Joseph-Migneret in Le Marais (the marsh), in the historic district of Paris. The area is very trendy, and home to many hip restaurants, art galleries and boutique and vintage shops. During the ceremony, a single red rose was passed around, and each guest said two things they love about Aude and Robin. It is the first time i’ve experienced that at a wedding, and it was so special and intimate.
Following the creative shoot in Le Marais, we all headed to Pierre Sang restaurant in Oberkampf district, where everyone enjoyed a 6 course, vegan dinner in the cozy wine cellar. Close friend to Robin and Aude, and currently a foreign correspondent for The Sunday Times in the UK, award winning journalist, Dan McDougall gave an incredible, eye opening speech, which gave so much more insight into Robin and Aude’s lives. Their wedding was one of the highlights of my trip to Europe.
Thank you so much Monica for being there on our special day, and giving us this amazing gift of beautiful memories.
