Mia & Jonas’s Wedding / Gålö Havsbad / Stockholm
“In the space,
the pause,
between this breath
and the one that follows,
you have made a home inside me.”
Tyler Knott Gregson
As my friends and family know, Sweden has become a huge part of my life. I’ve met and made beautiful friends, got to spend quality time with family, and meet the most incredible clients (that have gone on to become friends). A couple of years ago I photographed Mia and Jonas, and their sons Liam and David, so I was excited to when they contacted me to photograph their wedding south of Stockholm at Galo Havsbad. I arrived the day before and fell in love with the charming location, with it’s thick green forests, red cabins and quiet beach. So much love went into this wedding, with Mia and Jonas’s Moms, aunts and uncle organising the catering and buffet. Mia picked peonies and ferns from her garden for her bouquet, and it was perfect timing that the peonies were flowering. I started off with her and her bridesmaids Jenny and Carro, who made sure her champagne glass was full and her hair and makeup done naturally.
Jonas, his sons and best man Johan were getting ready in a nearby cabin. Mia and Jonas decided to see each other before their ceremony, so had their ‘first look’ and then couple shoot beforehand. Jonas waited along one of the forest paths with his back turned, while Mia graciously walked up in her beautiful, floaty dress and tapped him on the shoulder. Those moments are always priceless and I find myself catching my breath every time.
Their romantic and intimate ceremony was held under the trees in the sunshine, and witnessed by friends and family. Galo Havsbad is very special to them both, as they’ve spent many times there camping and fishing.
What I really loved about their wedding was that it was so relaxed, unpretentious and had so many beautiful and personal touches. Åse (Jonas’s Mom) and Mia made gluten and dairy-free cakes, and one was baked by the local baker, with Jonas having made the cake stands. The entire day just seemed to flow effortlessly, as did the drinks! Connected to the reception area was a cozy room with a bar, where everyone could mingle and enjoy music. Following the speeches, guests were entertained with an African dance by the men, and a few games followed. The newlyweds opened the dance floor, and then everyone joined in. Jonas had a ‘dance-off’ with his talented nephew, Jakob which was incredible, and then the partying started! One of the most fun weddings I’ve ever photographed! Thank you Mia and Jonas. It was so lovely to see you again and a real privilege to photograph your wedding!
