Malin & Anders Winter Wedding In The Snow / Karlstad / Sweden
I met Malin and Anders a few years ago when I did a family shoot for them in Karlstad in 2013 (click here). I then did another one for them last year with their little addition to the family, Hugo! (see here). In November this year, on the most beautiful winter’s day in Sweden, I had the privilege of photographing their wedding. I have always dreamed of shooting a winter’s wedding in snow, and what made this particularly magical, was that the sky was a gorgeous blue and golden sunlight completely draped itself over the whole city.
I met up with Malin and her 2 close friends in Karstad centre where she was having her make-up done. The excitement had already built up and they all chatted while enjoying some bubbly. We headed off to First Hotel River C, which had the most beautiful view over the river. Malin and Anders decided to have their creative shoot done before the ceremony while the light was still good. So Anders waited nervously on a little wooden bridge, and Malin made her way towards him. That first look…that moment…was incredible and special…and so romantic with the golden light and snow all merged together. A few of their close friends joined them for a champagne toast before heading to the church.
Wilma and Hugo, Malin and Anders children walked with them down the aisle and joined in on the ceremony. Candles were lit in the church and the low light created a really intimate feeling of togetherness. As family and friends left the church, the couple were sprinkled with rice, and met with glittery sparklers. We all walked from the church to CCC Karlstad for the reception and celebrations, while the newly weds departed in a limo.
Swedish weddings have numerous games, and I laughed so much during 2 of the games. The first game, Malin was blindfolded, and had to guess who her husband was, by touching the faces of different men. Then it was Anders turn. He was blindfolded and instead of guessing out of a few women, several of the guys lined up and he had to kiss each one and guess which one was his new bride. He got it wrong and kissed the best man, and everyone was roaring with laughter. Even my camera took a few shakes from laughing. When the dance floor opened, it was moments before it was full of some creative, crazy moves! The fairytale day ended off with a spectacular display of fireworks over the bridge.
Thank you, Malin and Anders, for a day I will remember forever! You are both so special and i’m looking forward to spending time with you in Sweden next year.
Absolutely lovely pictures! ❤
